Da'Naria Washington Named CCAC Conference Defensive Player of the Week - Second Time Winning Award in 2024-25

GovState women's basketball Da'Naria Washington (3) for the second time this season, has been named CCAC Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

"D" had a team-high 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in last week's 69-62 road win over D2 University of Indianapolis. She also led GSU in scoring Saturday with 22 points in 92-45 home win vs. Judson University.

GSU (8-2, 3-1 CCAC) has two conference road games this week at Trinity Christian, 7:30 PM Wednesday night and 12 noon CST at defending CCAC Conference champion IU South Bend Saturday, December 21.

GSU's Washington Gains Second Women's Basketball Weekly Award, USF's Harris Earns First

CHICAGO --- Governors State University's Da'Naria Washington (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed her second Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season, while University of St. Francis' Le'lani Harris (Oak Lawn, Ill.) captured her first when the league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

Harris was recognized as the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week after authoring a career-high 28 points in a 91-77 victory over Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday.  She converted 11 of her 20 shots from the field, including three treys, that night, while also coming up with six rebounds and three steals.

On Saturday, the junior guard collected another 15 points, four boards and two steals in a tight 68-66 setback to Indiana University South Bend. 

For the two games combined, Harris averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting .517 from the field (15-of-29).

St. Francis went 1-1 on the week to put itself at 9-2 overall and 3-1 against league competition.

Washington earned her second CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award after having a big game in front of her hometown fans last Wednesday.  The senior guard secured 10 of her 13 rebounds on the defensive end and also had four blocks and one steal in a 69-62 win over NCAA II University of Indianapolis. 

Three days later, Washington totaled 22 points, two rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in a 92-45 triumph versus Judson University.

For the two games combined, Washington averaged 13.5 points, 7.5 rebounds3.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steals.

With the two wins, Governors State is now 8-2 overall and 3-1 in CCAC play.
