Jaguars Mens and Women's Basketball Sweep St. Xavier With two Big Wins - Volleyball Now 3-1 on Season

A big day for GovState Athletics Saturday with the men's and women's basketball team sweeping St. Xavier at the ARC.

In attendance today were some Governors State University cabinet members and President Cheryl Green and many GSU alumni back on campus for the games.

Plus the men's volleyball team won two more matches in Iowa and are now 3-1 on the season for the first-year volleyball program.

CCAC leaders - women's basketball (16-4, 10-2) beat St. Xavier 67-53 with four players scoring in double figures for the Jaguars. Tabetha Jones led the offense for GSU with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists in the win.

Men's basketball beat first place CCAC St. Xavier with a 108-95 win. Tyrell Isom had 15 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and three players scored at least 20 points - Vincent Davis 21, newcomer Rashad Smith 20 and Javon Johnson 20 for the Jaguars.

Men's VOLLEYBALL REPORT:

Governors State University men's and women's athletic teams with a busy and successful sports weekend.

Men's volleyball plays the first-ever matches in program history Fri-Sat with four matches in Iowa at the St. Ambrose University tournament. (GSU now 3-1 on season)

Governors State University men's volleyball with a milestone first program victory tonight in Iowa vs. William Penn University!

The first-year men's volleyball team had a comeback 3-2 win over William Penn (NAIA ranked #5) winning the fourth set 31-29 and coming back in the fifth to win 15-13.

Diego Antunez had 19 kills for the winners and Pedro Castillo had 8 kills and 37 assists in the victory.

Coach Jessica Reyes' Jaguars (1-1) are back in action Saturday with two more matches in the St. Ambrose University Tournament.

GSU's home volleyball opener is February 4, 7 PM in the ARC vs. Trinity Christian College.

Men's and women's indoor track teams competed Friday at the Olivet Nazarene University indoor meet in Bourbonnais, 3 PM start.

Saturday and Sunday in Kentucky, GSU's - 18th ranked women's bowling team competes in two tournaments.
