JAGUARS WITH HUGE 69-68 COMEBACK WIN AT ROOSEVELT
GSU trailed in the game 53-39 with 8:50 left before going on a 30-15 run to close out the victory and earn Jaguar Nation its 5th trip to CCAC post season in six years of eligibility (GSU was not eligible for post-season the first two years of the program).
The second half comeback was keyed by (3) three-point field goals from Adam Taylor, and two three-pointers by Nick Mikash and timely scoring from point guard Tai Walters-Whitaker.
The Jaguars trailed at halftime 33-26 and outscored the Lakers (19-9, 16-4 CCAC) 43-35 in the second half.
"We changed our offense a little bit and went to a different set against their zone," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates. "And we played better defense and we got in a situation where a pivotal part of the game and Nick (Mikash) got fouled and a techical foul and he hit two free throws. And the momentum changed and went our way. Adam (Taylor) hit huge threes for us and we are now in the playoffs,"
"What's beautiful about the post-season is that everyone is 0-0. We are now going to prepare for a physical and tough St. Xavier team and you play until you lose," said Coach Bates.
Taylor hit 7-9 three-pointers and scored 21 points with four rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes played.
Point guard Tai Walters-Whitaker led the Jaguars scoring 23 points (7-17 field goals, 9-13 free throws) and had a season-high 12 assists, 7 rebounds and two steals playing all 40 minutes.
GSU had solid off the bench play from Lashun Dantzler (14 minutes, two assists), Tyler Clarke (5 rebounds, 9 minutes) and freshman Greg Foster up playing off the JV roster (13 minutes, 2 rebounds and a steal).
Kyle Jackson scored nine points, four rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal playing 40 minutes.
