GovState's men's team finished 6th overall and the women's team 7th at last weekend's CCAC Indoor Track Championship meet in Iowa.

Governors State University Head Men's and Women's Coach John Niendorf talked about his teams performances.

"The coaching staff and myself were proud of the way the athletes competed over the two-day conference meet. There were personal records set all over the weekend. The women's 4x800, featuring Kaylee O'Sullivan, Trinity Bonham, Sydney Bonham, and Krysta Stanko, took first place overall and were the conference champions. Kaylee O'Sullivan and Krysta Stanko took 6th and 8th place overall in a very competitive 3k field. Sydney Bonham score points in the mile run, finishing 6th in the event."

"On the men's side we had our first ever heptathlon competitor, Sean O'Brien, take 6th place, scoring three points for the Jaguars. Austin Martin was the first ever long jumper in GSU track history to score at the conference meet, placing 7th overall."

"The men's 4x800, featuring Russell Ward, Randy Almarales, Omar Mohamed, and Colin O'Brien, were All-Conference with their 3rd place finish. Also taking All-Conference was Clark Fremouw, who went up against a tough shot-put field and was able to take 2nd place. Clark also made history being the first GSU thrower to compete at conference in the Track team's short history. Daniel Zavala placed 7th place in the 5k and Russell Ward scored points in the 800. Russell placed 6th and was the first GSU athlete to break 2:00 minutes in the 800. Overall, I was impressed with how many athletes were able to achieve personal bests and the effort that was shown out there this weekend. We will be wrapping the regular indoor season up next week at GVSU for the runners that were able to qualify for the elite Friday night meet up in Grand Rapids," said Coach Niendorf.
