Jaguars Goalkeeper MARCOL SALOM CHANDRE Named CCAC Defensive Player of Week for 3rd Time in 2024
GSU's Chandre, SAU's Campbell Capture Men's Soccer Weekly Honors
CHICAGO --- Governors State University's Marcal Salom Chandre (Barcelona, Spain) has claimed his third Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer weekly honor, while St. Ambrose University's Joe Campbell (Morton, Ill.) collected his first for their efforts during the seven-day period ending Oct. 27, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.
Chandre extended the Jaguars' streak to four straight weeks of having at least one player garner the distinction. The sophomore goalkeeper did so on the defensive side of the ball by posting his third shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Saint Xavier University last Wednesday. He finished the contest registering seven saves.
Chandre currently ranks third in the league with 55 saves on the season and sits fourth with his 1.09 goals-against average.
Unbeaten in their last ten games, the Jaguars are 2 points ahead in first place over Judson, and Governors State is 10-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in league play.
Campbell gained his first CCAC Offensive Player of the Week award after netting four goals and an assist in a pair of St. Ambrose victories. The freshman forward started off the week with one goal and one assist in an 8-1 decision over University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday. Four days later, he notched his first collegiate hat trick with three goals in a 9-0 defeat of Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.
The pair of wins were the first two of the campaign for the Fighting Bees, who are 2-8-3 overall and 2-5-1 against league competition.
