
GSU's Rafael Silverio Late Goal Lifts Jaguars to 2-2 Tie In Season Opener vs. Midland University (NE)
Palos Heights, Illinois - GovState forward Rafael Silverio (Sr. transfer, Islas Cawarias, Spain) booted home a left footed goal in the final minute to lift the Jaguars to a 2-2 tie in the 2024 season opener vs. Midland University (Nebraska).
Silverio's goal was assisted by John Gonzalez (Sr., Medelin, Columbia) and was part of GSU's 35-shot (21 in second half) season-opening game played at Trinity Christian College.
Midland University goalie Hugo Sjoeberg made 15 saves in the match, including four or five highlight-reel saves to keep Midland University (0-1) ahead 2-1 until the 89' blast from Silverio.
Gonzalez led the GSU offense with six shots and Silverio and Diego Camarena (Sr. Gilman, Illinois) had five shots each.
Governors State led 1-0 in the first half on a Javier Losa (Soph, M, Valencia, Spain) in the 19' assisted by Camarena,
