Governors State University Head Men's and Women's Track/Field Coach John Niendorf talks about the season opening outdoor performance last week in St. Louis.

"The athletes competed incredibly well in St. Louis. The heat and wind played a huge role in the times out there, but all the athletes fought hard the entire meet and some were even able to achieve personal records in the tough conditions. For example, Russell Ward and Camila Mendez were both able to pr in the 84-degree heat and blustery winds. There was plenty of competition out there today as there were many D1, D2, D3, and NAIA school competing out there, " said Coach Niendorf.

"Overall, I was pleased with the effort that these athletes had out there, and I look forward to our upcoming, three-day track meet at Elmhurst. The Elmhurst competition will feature a lot of firsts for GSU. We will be having our first javelin thrower, Sean O'Brien, competing on Thursday. We will also have our first female pole vaulter, Courben Sessions, vaulting on Friday. Along with that, we also have Clark Fremouw going for a National qualifying mark in discus today and Oluwatosin King will be the first female discus thrower this Thursday. Along with that, all our sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and distance runners will all be looking to break their own personal records. I look forward to a lot of success over the three-day track meet."
