Brandon Moore, Assistant Coach (2024-2025) - Second Season On Coach Bates' Men's Basketball Staff at GSU
After serving as an assistant for the Olive-Harvey College men’s basketball team for 10 seasons, Brandon Moore took over as head coach in 2015-16. In Moore’s seven years at the helm, OHC produced a 126-95 overall record, including winning the City Colleges of Chicago Conference (CCCC) five years in a row (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2021-22 and 2022-23) including a 26-7 mark in 2017-18 when the Panthers advanced to the Region IV District 3 championship and finished the season ranked No. 16 in the NJCAA Division II national poll. Also that year, Olive-Harvey was ranked six times in the Division II weekly poll, assembled winning streaks of 11 and nine games and owned an 8-1 record against City Colleges of Chicago competition.
In the 2021-22 season, OHC finished with an overall record of 21-9 and a perfect 10-0 conference record in the City Colleges of Chicago Conference (CCCC). OHC finished the 2022-23 campaign with an overall record of 25-8 including a perfect 8-0 record in the CCCC and advanced to the 2022-23 Region IV District 3 Championship game. Also in 2022-23, the panthers were in the receiving votes of the NJCAA Division II National Poll for 4 weeks including a final ranking in receiving votes as well. Under Moore's tutelage, seven Panthers have earned All-Region IV honors and two NJCAA All-American selections. Along with his All-Region IV selection in 2018-19, Kendrick Robinson was also named as an NJCAA Division I All-American. In 2022-23, Jemel Jones was named All-Region and as an NJCAA Division II All-American. As an assistant in 2014-15, Olive-Harvey captured the Region IV District B title and advanced to the NJCAA Division II Championship tournament.
Moore competed collegiately at University of St. Francis (USF) in Joliet, McKendree College in downstate Lebanon and Saint Xavier University (SXU) in Chicago. During his senior season at USF in 1999-2000, Moore earned first-team All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) honors after averaging 15.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He also shot 59 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. In addition, Moore was selected to the all-tournament team at Rollins College’s tourney in Orlando, Fla.
As a junior, Moore helped McKendree post a 21-9 mark and capture the American Midwest Conference crown courtesy of his 14.8 points-, 6.1 assists- and 4.9-rebounds-per-game averages. Moore scored 35 points against Iowa Wesleyan University to claim the NAIA Player of the Week award Nov. 24, 1998. A first-team All-CCAC performer as a sophomore at SXU, Moore averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. At the National Christian Basketball Tournament in the 1996-97 season, Moore was voted to the all-tournament first team.
After completing his collegiate career, Moore played professionally for the Elgin Racers of the International Basketball League (IBL) from 2005-09. Moore averaged 21 points in 2006 and represented the Eastern Conference in the IBL All-Star Game that season. His 45 points against Waterloo that year established the league’s single-game scoring mark. Led by Moore, Elgin won the 2007 IBL Midwest Division title. A standout at Proviso West High School in Hillside, Moore was named first team All-West Suburban Conference, first team Pioneer Press all-area and Chicago Sun-Times all-area as a senior in 1994-95. Also as a senior, Moore was chosen to the Illinois High School Top-100 list by the Chicago Tribune. As a senior, Moore averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals per game. He scored 30 points in the West Suburban Conference All-Star Game to earn MVP accolades, and he helped Proviso West finish 19-7, win an IHSA Regional championship and place as high as 17th in the state’s Class AA poll.
Moore received a Bachelor’s Degree in sports and health sciences with a coaching concentration and a Master’s Degree in Social Studies from American Public University. In May of 2023, Moore also earned a second Master’s of Education Degree with honors in Physical Education from North Park University. He has two children, Brandon and Bradley.
