Former Player Adam Taylor, GSU Graduate '23 joins Coach Bates' coaching staff in 2023-24 and will be the Varsity Reserve Head Coach in 2024-25 season.

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - Governors State University senior basketball star Adam Taylor (Mokena, IL, Providence Catholic High School) was named the 2023 Student Leadership Awards - Male Athlete of the Year in a ceremony Friday in GSU's Honors Hall.
Taylor has been a two-year GSU team leader in two sports (basketball and golf on and off the court earning previous Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete and CCAC Academic awards and he is graduating in May with a GSU Degree in Elementary Education. He was awarded the Athlete of the Year award from GSU Athletic Director and Men's Head Basketball Coach Tony Bates.
Taylor played two seasons for Governors State University following graduation from Joliet College in 2021.
He played in 54 career games for the Orange and Black with 54 career starts. He has scored 537 points, 135 career rebounds, 65 assists and 22 steals for the Jaguars.
In the 2021-22 season he was an NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete and an All-CCAC Conference Honor Roll student-athletes. He led GSU in 3-pointers (58) and set the school season record with a .905 free throw percentage hitting 38 of 42 free throws. Was third in team scoring (9.4) in 2021-2022 playing in all 29 games He Scored a season-high 23 points vs. Trinity Christian. GSU Athletics High Honor Roll (Fall 2021, Spring 2022).
Last season he was third on the team in scoring with an average of 10.6 points per game and he scored a career-tying high game of 23 points at Trinity Christian earlier this month. He hit a school game-record 6 of 7 three-pointers against Calumet in January and has scored in double figures 12 games this season and four games with 20 or more points in 2022-2023. He was a NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete nominee again this year for Governors State University.
The Governors State University 2023 Student Leadership Awards program was highlighted by GSU President Dr. Cheryl Green awarding the prestigious President Cheryl Green Award. Other awards included the Dual Degree Program, Admissions Ambassador of the Year, Housing Representative of the Year, and women's basketball senior star Angelique Cowan (Ottawa, IL, Ottawa High School) was awarded the GSU Female Athlete of the Year award from Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach Tonishea Mack.
